On September 18, 2008 a United States Soldier’s were shot on their patrol base on the Southern side of Baghdad. That very same day of the two soldiers being shot, news was brought to the United States that seven Americans were killed due to a helicopter crash. The accident was not in result of attacks, yet causes that are still unknown. With all the totals in, eleven soldiers are said to have been killed since Sunday without any relation to enemies. Although the names of the helicopter victims were never released, Sgt. Darris J. Dawson (24) and Sgt. Wesley R. Durban (26) were identified as the shooting victims. The two men who were stationed 30 miles outside the capital, were said to be involved in a “non- violent shooting”, yet the military failed to name the other solider involved in this incident. Another United States solider is held in custody right now for the deaths, until further investigation has taken place. Yet many still don’t know if the event was deliberate or accidental, many fail to talk about the incident due to minor details. The CH-47 helicopter, which crashed west of Basara shortly after midnight, was part of a four-helicopter convoy flying from Kuiat to Balad. Being the deadliest helicopter accident since August 22nd of last year, many investigations are taking place due to the mystery of this plane wreck.
