current event # 6
This article focuses on the fashion of today with different diversities. In the past years, magazines have really been focusing on ethnicity’s representing their magazines. Although some whites have been complaining about ethnicity’s representing workplaces in a bad manor for their style. In response to these complaints, editors sat down and discuss viewpoints on the subject of race and how its represented in the magazine. In New York the concern was brought up about blacks not being able to walk the runway because of the look for a certain European style. Vogue recently did a magazine titled “Black Vogue” just feature black models. This magazine came out in Italy causing controversy because of the fact of Italian runways are not into have diversities model their styles. The issue of this Italian Vogue brought interest to the US. The Vogue editor decided that he would now dedicate another issue to black men, donating money raised to African charities. The editor named Sozzani has found many ways to address diversity, he thinks that he is setting an example for Americans, and he hopes we can follow it. The issues that she has brought out speak to the community who can make a difference in how they look at ethnic groups and how beauty should really be defined. Although it is hard for many to see past AID’s, Rwanda, and Darfur, other foreign countries believe that us Americans need to get passed them and be more hopeful. As Sozanni repeats in the article “Fashion is not only about clothes.”
