number 1- free choice

This week I read about the Wizard of Oz’s Mickey Carroll (the munchkin) died. At the age of 89, he died in his sleep at his own home. Although he had heart problems and had a peacemaker placed in him in February, his caretaker Linda Dodge said he was a healthy man. Carroll was one of the more than 100 children casted in the movie and made $125 a week for interviews during the movie filming. Carroll also did many fundraisers for “Oz-related” events after the movie was filmed. He has always said how he loves how his roll makes people think of their child hood. Carroll was born in 1919 and grew up in St. Louis with a twin sister and four other siblings in a Italian neighborhood. Throughout his life he loved theatre and worked in clubs to earn money. He also did live radio ads and appeared in shows with Mae West, although the muchkin roll was what made him popular. In the movie, he is the munchkin who escorted Dorothy to emerald city. In 2007, he received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame with the other munchkins for this small roll.
