The most important issue to me in the 2008 election is definitely gas prices. I feel as if gas prices are a major reason why our economy is doing so horrible right now. This issue is trying to be solved by creating and encouraging many to drive hybrid cars and carpooling to work and such, yet this issue is a problem that really need to be solved. Obama has said "Gas prices are killing folks". He himself is a major supporter of ethanol and says that the country need to do more to increase the production of this chemical. Obama believes that we should be investing our money into new technologies so we can replace the common engine in cars today, he says repetitively that he thinks its time for us to move on because we want to get rid of fossil fuels. As quoted by Obama, ."When John F. Kennedy said we were going to the moon, the engineers and all those guys with the pocket protectors and the glasses at NASA, they all pulled out their slide rulers and said, 'How are we going to do that?’ “ Obama said. "They didn't know how it was going to get done. But once we set a clear goal and Americans buy into that goal, then nothing can stop us. The same is true on energy." Yet, if Obama was to vote for the CLEAN energy Act of 2007, by 2016 prices of gas would rise over $6 dollars per gallon.
Although Gas prices could be considered a local issue due to different prices at different gas stations, it is a major national issue. Due to the facts that a large number of factors such as world demand for oil and limited US refinery capacity to supply the gasoline, the war in Iraq has added a lot of conflict, and threats of to little supply, has threatened not only or states yet our Nation.
A local issue in this election is definately the issue of seat belts. As dumb as that may sound, I really believe that every state should have a law saying that a seat belt is neccessary. With the amount of car accident now-a-days with impacient drivers, i really think a seat belt could save someones life. With the click it or ticket law, alot of people follow, but i know that when i get in the car with my friends many dont follow it. Although i always preech to my friends about how important i feel it is to wear a seatbelt, some of them just dont care and i feel like thats not right and it needs to be more heavily enforced.
Due to McCains decision that he made today, i definately beleive he is being smarter in the topic of debates. He is postponning the debate on friday until the resolution of the Wallstreet financial mess, he even vowed to suspend his campaign to put his eye on findinga solution to this problem. I believe that this decision really shows the American people how dedicated McCain is toward his country, and that in his mind politics come second, while emergencys come first. Neither campaign has changed its tax or spending proposals even though the country suddenly faces the prospect of much higher deficits, an overhaul of key financial institutions and the essential nationalization of the country's largest insurance company. Whether they deal with it now or not, economists and analysts say, the next president may find it extremely difficult to keep all his promises because of the worsening fiscal environment. Although Neither Campagin has changes thier tax proposals re dealing with major issues dues to the countrys largest insurance co. overhauling, whether the two deal with the situation or not the next president definately is going to have trouble keeping thier promises because of the trouble that is going on.
Electronic media has a large part in this election. With many adds as seen on the TV come on, either talking smack about each party, or talking about the good of themselves, the media definately has a large part on this election. Considering many young voters only hear or see things about the nominees threw the computer or television, Obama and McCain are trying to get thier messages out in ways that young people will connect and come out and vote.

I agree with you about gas prices. They definently need to go down!! Very good post, its well thought out and long.
i also agree about gas prices! i filled up my tank today and it was like fifty bucks! and i even got the gas at costco which is usually cheaper!
Good news Hailey! gas prices are supposed to be under 3 dollars in the next year! On the news today they said this would be due to the lowering cost of oil and just about everything else in the market today because of our screwed up economy!
